New Layouts - Cracking the Code
Aug 29, 2007

Hi All. I've put up a plethora of new layouts. There are so many to sift through it will become overwhelming. We plan to create a search, but until then I'll let you know what the numbers correspond to so you can find what you need a little quicker.

There are 5 numbers (e.g. 4.1.3.1.1) that correspond to this: source-order.menu-style.photo-style.columns.variation

Source Order

This is how we've dynamically arranged the header, photo, and menu. Look at your design and decide what touches the very top and start there. There are six possibilities:

  1. menu, photo, header
  2. menu, header, photo (not available yet)
  3. header, menu, photo
  4. header, photo, menu
  5. photo, heading, menu
  6. photo, menu, heading (not available yet)

Menu Style

  1. Natural Flow (a list)
  2. Inline (horizontal)
  3. Floated Vertical
  4. Split

Photo Style

  1. Natural Flow (banner)
  2. Floated Horizontal (fixed height)
  3. Floated Vertical (fixed width)

Columns

The refers to the number of column you have counting the content as a column.

  1. Natural Flow (one column)
  2. One Side (two columns)
  3. Flanked or Side-by-Side (three columns)

Variations

I normally start with the left side then mirror, change another aspect and mirror. Variations can go on and on.

More Tips and Tutorials Posted
Nov 22, 2006
I've posted more tips and tutorials in an effort to clear up some common questions. I've also created a 3D animated illustration of our HTML skeleton to make it more understandable to those not familiar with web design.

We love to get feedback about how we can improve things or what you find confusing so please take a moment to post to the forum or fill out the questionnaire while you are here. It really helps us a lot!

Thanks to everyone and have a happy holiday season.

The Karma Wizard Released!
Nov 4, 2006
With great anticipation, The Karma Wizard is here! The Karma Wizard works hand in hand with the full-featured content management system, KarmaCMS. Just as KarmaCMS gives the user full control over their site's content, The Karma Wizard gives you control over your site's design.

It's simple and userfriendly enough for the average user to change things like fonts and colors; it's powerful enough for professional web designers to create their entire HTML and Flash/HTML hybrid portfolios around. Better yet, it's done with table-less vailid XHTML/CSS with the browser based layout bugs already zapped for you. All you do is sit back and do what you got into this business to do it the first place - DESIGN!
