What's What?  
General

The Main Links are the principal navigation in your website to other "pages" and arguable the most important part of your site. Depending on your layout they can appear in different places; some are horizontal and under the header, some are vertical and above the teasers, others are at the very top of the page, and some are split into horizontal and vertical groups.

The links can be split into two groups in the KarmaCMS main preferences by inserting the dashed line, "---". When they are split they are controlled by main links group 1 and main links group 2. The dashed line isn't inserted by default so all links are in group 1 unless you change that.

In every situation the main links are a variable height so a height should never be placed on them. Anything under this div should be able to move down naturally as the main links expand. Usually it is the flexible nature of the main links that throws designers not experienced with dynamic design for a loop.

All Links

Here you'll see the main links highlighted with a silver background. The links in this example are horizontal and split into two sections in the corresponding CMS. If the links weren't split you would simply have one row that would wrap if need be.

Main Links - Wrapper

The links wrapper contains both groups of main links at once. To affect all links at once such as move them all over to the left, or put a red background behind them all, do it here.

Main Links

This section is found the "all links" area of the Wizard. Here you can control individual links from both groups at once such as padding, margin, background, borders, and colors. The individual links are illustrated here with a silver background.

Keep in mind if your links are horizontal, margin-top and margin-bottom will appear to have no affect. The reason is in order to have the links display horizontally they must be "inline elements" as opposed to "block elements" when vertical. Inline elements are not affected by margin, only padding. Inline elements are affected vertically by line-height.

Graphic Fonts

The option of enhancing your main links by turning the text into graphical fonts can be found in the "all links" area. Keep in mind that both groups of links will have the same style font controlled here.

There are a couple extra options for the graphical font main links:

  • Mouseover Color: The color your graphic font should turn when your mouse touches it.
  • Selected Color: The color your graphic font turns after you click on it and signifies which page you are one.

Group 1 Links

Main Links - Group 1 Wrapper

Link Group 1 is the default group until you split them in the main preferences of the KarmaCMS. You can set style for the entire first groups of links here.

Here you can set the individual link style such as padding, margin, background, link color for textual links, etc.
